Biggest Loser
Ingredients
olive oil spray
1 cup minced yellow or white onion
2 tbsp freshly minced garlic
1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
1/4 cup water
2 tbsp no salt added tomato paste
2 tsp honey
1 tbsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried basil
1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
Salt to taste
Directions
Makes 7 (1/2 cup)servings: about 3 1/2 cup sauce
Spray medium nonstick saucepan with the olive oil spray and place over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook until just becoming tender (they should not be brown), 4-6 minutes. Reduce the heat to low and with a wooden spoon stir in the tomatoes, water, tomato paste, honey, oregano, basil, and pepper flakes until well combined. Cover and cook, stirring occasionally, for at least 1 hour. Season with salt, if needed.
Serving info from book: 63 calories, 3g protein, 15g carbohydrates, less that 1g fat (trace saturated), 0mg cholesterol, 3g fiber, 156mg sodium.
This is a wonderful sauce, even the girls are ok with it, Evan, well he is never ok with anything we serve, but I do believe it will grow on them.
We added some of this sauce to our burgers last night it was a hit.. Sarah & Kathy said they enjoyed it also..
Here is the pizza burger:
1 pound of your choice meat
(book says 96% lean ground beef) WE used turkey..96% lean is expensive for 1 pound..
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teas garlic powder
1/2 teas crushed red pepper, or to taste
1/4 salt
3 0z low fat mozzarella cheese, thinly slice
1/2 cup of above Sauce
In large bowl mix, beef, oregano, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, & salt. Make patties. Cook as you normally would your burgers. When almost done add your cheese, warm up sauce and spread 2 tablespoons on cheese side up of your burger and enjoy. Don't forget your low fat buns!
Makes 4 servings
304 Calories, 32 g protein, 27 g carbo, 9g fat (3 g saturated), 68 mg cholesterol, 5 g fiber, 605 mg sodium.
